LOSS OF PASTURES

(Special to the "Evening Post.") PALMERSTON N., This Day. : With the. peak of the flood having passed, settlers in the deluged areas at Buckley and Moutoa have now to face the serious problems of feed shortage for stock and broken banking systems. Both are major problems, but while it may be possible to repair the stopbanks sufficiently to withstand further rises in the river, the question- of finding feed for the. herds and .flocks will not be so easily solved. Hay has either been' washed away or ruined by water, and when the overflow finally makes its way back into the river thousands of acres of pasture land will be left covered by thick silt with not a blade of grass showing.
