SHIP PUTS BACK
OFFICER TAKEN ILL
REPLACEMENT EFFECTED

AUCKLAND, August 20,
Eight hours after her departure for Westport, the Westport Coal Company's chartered steamer Kaimai returned to port to land the chief officer, Mr. G. M. Schofield, who was suffering from an internal complaint. The Kaimai left Auckland for Westport at noon on Saturday, and, four hours later, after clearing Hauraki Gulf, she was put back, arriving shortly before 8 p.m. The Kaimai berthed at Prince's Wharf, where the, port health officer, Dr. J. A. Watson, attended the ill officer. Mr. Schofield was taken to the Auckland Hospital, where he underwent an operation. His condition today was reported to be satisfactory. After several hours and been spent in search for an officer to fill Mr. Schofield's position, replacement was made late on Saturday night, and the Kaimai resumed her voyage at midnight.
