MOSSY CREEK'S YEAR

Gold won by Mossy Creek Dredg-j ing Company for the year ended May 31 was 13040z 12dwt 19gr, of a net. realised value of X 10.119 7s 2d, coin-! pared with 15860z, valued at £11.775,1 for last year. Dredging costs were £6908 19s sd. and bushlelling £1421 10s 9d. a total of £8402 10s 2d, compared with £7857 3s lOd for 1938 period. It is not expected that bushciearing will be a heavy expense for some time to come. Balance brought forward from last year was £ 1783 3s Id. After transferring £1159 6s 8d to credit of profit and loss account and providing for dividend in August last and income tax reserve, the balance to credit of appropriation stands at £1644 19s 3d. Ground of varying quality was treated and for one period of ten weeks the total amount ofi gold produced was only 109.30z. "It is confidently expected," states the report, "the improvement will continue as dredge proceeds up the valley." One dividend of Id was paid during the year and it is hoped to declare a further dividend during the present month, but additional expenditure incurred in connection with repairs to pontoons has delayed this meantime. The dredgemaster, adds the report, has had a difficult year but with the co-operation of an efficient crew the company's best interests have been attended to at all times. MAORI GULLY. Progress is being made with the new dredge being re-erected for the Maori Gully Company at Callaghans, near Kumara. It is expected to be ready for a trial run by the middle of November, or a little earlier. The pontoon has been successfully launched, and the erection of the machinery, practically all of'which is on the site, will be commenced immediately. The dredge was purchased at the Nevis, Central Otago, and the total cost of the dredge and machinery and removal to Callaghans is about £4000, exclusive of cost of re-erection. MOONLIGHT RETURN. The Moonlight Goldfields Company, Ltd., advises that the wash-up at its claim on Thursday yielded llloz for 450 hours' sluicing. LOLOMA AND EMPEROR Production of the Loloma and Emperor companies operating on the Tavua field, Fiji, for the four weeks ended August 9 was as follows:— Loloma: Treated 2459 tons for 3236 fine ounces of gold and 572 fine ounces of silver; residue, I.2Bdwt. Emperor: Treated 14,445 tons for 4086 fine ounces of gold; residue, o.63dwt. Concentrates stacked, pending further treatment, 18 tons, estimated to contain 117oz fine gold. , WORKSOP. Worksop Extended Gold Dredging Company reports a return for the week ending August 17 of 330z for 126 hours and 11,000 yards. MOUNT MORGAN. Mount Morgan Mine, Queensland, shows a net profit of £122,409, against £116,064 in the previous year and £ 143,043 in 1937 for the year ended June 30. The profit is shown after providing £29,757 for depreciation and after taking into account £141.900 as the cost of removing overburden. No ordinary dividend will be paid this year. Preference dividends during the year totalled £40,883 and contributions to employees' welfare funds were £2201. Total assets are £256,682 higher. The following were the principal increases:—Machinery and plant, £140,665; qre stocks, £5602; stores £70,749; blister concentrates, etc., £49,219. The directors state that stores, which are mainly imported, were increased to provide against any emergency that might have arisen ow|i_g to unsettled conditions overseas. GOLDEN DAWN. Golden Dawn Gold Mines reports for the fortnight ending August 12:—A start was made to sink the winze on No. 5 reef below No. 3 level on August 2, and so far a total of 7ft has been j sunk, the depth now being 25ft. Reef jis a solid body of quartz, wider than winze, and assays are improving in ! value in depth, running at lowest point from 12s to £3 12s 2d per ton, and looking well underfoot.'
