GLEN AFTON COLLIERIES * The operations of Glen Alton Collieries. Limited, were reviewed*recently by Mr. C. J. Pariane, genera) manager of the New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Company, Limited. He said that the sales of coal amounted to 259,700 tons, an increase of 20,400 tons, and were as follows:—Public, 136,600 tons; New Zealand Dairy Company suppliers, 12,600 tons; New Zealand Dairy Company factories, 53,300 tons; railways, 57,200 tons. The gross value of the turnover was £206,638, compared with £176,272 in 1938. After making adequate provision for repairs, maintenance, depreciation, and all outgoings, including income and social security tax, amounting to £17,850, and rebates to suppliers and factories of £14,371. the net profit was £16,636, which had been added to the balance brought forward from the previous year. The total net profit therefore amounted to £31,007, compared with £22,857 for 1938.
