FINANCIER AMONG WHALES
Dr. Helmut Wohltat, who was in London last month, is a friend, and through his American wife a distant relation, of Dr. Schacht He went to London to attend the International Whaling Congress. To keep this engagement, it was announced in Berlin, Dr. Wohltat suspended negotiations >n Burgos for the German-Spanish economic agreement. Though he found the Spaniards a difficult proposition, his efforts for German finance abroad have on the whole caused him to be well looked upon in Berlin. His reputation, indeed, caused him to be credited with being the charmer who lured the Czech gold from the Bank of England to the Reichsbank. He has many likeable qualities, one being that he has never concealed his friendships with German Jewish industrialists. So far the criticisms of extremist Nazis have failed to shake his position. Dr. Wohltat is slender, of medium height, and speaks English with an American accent.
