BODY IN HARBOUR

A body, believed to be that of Walter George Duncan, who disappeared from the New Occidental Hotel, Lambton Quay, on July 20. was found under the Eastbourne Ferry Wharf, in town, just before 9 a.m. today. It was clad in a pair of long underpants, a woollen singlet, and a pair of socks. It had apparently been in the water for some time.

Duncan, a seaman, aged about 25, had booked in at the New Occidental Hotel, and at 1.30 a.m. on July 20 descended the stairway clad in only a pair of underpants, a singlet, and a pair of socks, and went out into.the street. The night porter was unable to stop him, and telephoned the police. A car was immediately sent from the police station, and other constables on foot and on cycles. unsuccessfully searched for the man near the waterfront, in which direction, he was seen to run.
