APPOINTMENT TO VENEZUELA

The King has approved the appointment of Mr. D. St. Clair Gainer, formerly British Consul-General in Vienna, to be his Majesty's Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary at Caracas, succeeding Mr. Ernest Gye, who to retire shortly.

Mr. Gainer was the British ConsulGeneral in Munich until last summer. The Nazi Government recently procured his removal from Vienna in circumstances suggesting retaliation for the expulsion by Britain of the German Consul in Liverpool.
