STARTING NEXT TUESDAY

OVER 1000 PLANES

This year's exercises of the Royal Air Force, to take place from next Tuesday until the folloAving Friday, will be on a larger scale than ever before. In the manoeuvres, Avhich Avill include important night operations, there Avill be engaged more than 1000 planes of different types —bombers, fighters, and scouting machines —ancl a ground staff of 20,000.

The latest methods of attack and defence will be tested in operations of a magnitude never before possible. Coinciding with the territorial camp season, the exercises will enable members of anti-aircraft and observer corps to co-operate.

A blackout over 27 counties, including London, in the early hours of August 10 is incidental to the manoeuvres.
