COST OF LIVING
(To the Editor.)
Sir,—After listening to the statements of Cabinet Ministers that the high standard of living must be maintained, I would like to ask if they will tell a few housewives how they are to do it. Shopping yesterday, I got three potatoes for fivepence, and a small swede turnip threepence—not too much for a family of three. It's a moral wages won't rise, but income tax has. It reminds me of the comedian's joke current years ago. He had been to a convivial party and found the game served that '"igh" he couldn't get it down. My opinion is that this applies to the cost of living in this country today.—l am, etc., MARY LOU.
