OBITUARY
MR. JOHN COOPER
The death occurred on July 22 of Mr. John Cooper, of Raukura, Taihape, at the age of 74 years. The late Mr. Cooper was a highly-esteemed farmer and had resided in the Taihape district for many years.
Born in Carterton, Mr. Cooper was the eldest son of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Cooper, of Gladstone. bHis death is especially regretted by the Maori community, for few men in New Zealand have had more dealings with the Native race, and many expressions of sympathy have been received by his family from them. Mr. Cooper was a member of the Rangitikei A. and P. Association, the New Zealand Farmers' i Union, the Marton Jockey Club, and the Moawhango Collie Club. He was greatly interested in sheep dog trials, and in addition to participating in them himself with his dog Glen, which won many prizes, he also gave several cups for competition. The late Mr. Cooper leaves a widow, two daughters, Miss Freda Cooper and Mrs. K. A. Broadbelt, of Lower Hutt, and four sons, Messrs. John, Kenneth, and Robert Cooper, of Taihape, and Gordon Cooper, of Hunterville.
