LIBRARIANS AT TEA

ENGLISH VISITORS

The Director of the Country Library Service, Mr. G. T. Alley, and the Wellington City Librarian, Mr. Joseph Norrie, were hosts at an afternoon tea party recently at Kirkcaldie and Stains tearooms in honour of Miss M. J. Powell, 0.8. E., A.L.A., and Miss F. Street, of England.

The visitors, both of whom have had long and interesting experience in adult, educational work in Great Britain, were welcomed by Mr. T. D. H. Hall. Miss Powell is in charge of the Surrey. County Library Service, and Miss Street, who has had extensive secretarial experience j.n connection with the British Parliament, is also interested in a number of forms of adult education. Both will visit the South Island before returning to Wellington, en route to England. Those invited to the "party included two past presidents of the New Zealand Library Association, Messrs. T. D. H. Hall, C.M.G., and W. J. Gaudin. Mrs. A. D. Mcintosh, Dr. C. E. Beeby (assistant Director of. Education), Dr". G. H. Scholefield, Mrs. Hamilton, and Mr. W. S. Wauchop (from the General Assembly Library), Miss J. W. Rawson (Country Library Service), Miss A. Woodhouse and Mr. C. R. H. Taylor (Alexander Turnbull Library), Miss R. C. Reid and Mr. H. G. Miller (Victoria- University College Library), Miss A. Denton and Mr. C. S. Perry (Wellington Public Libraries) .

Mrs. E. M. Creasy (Nelson), is visiting London and is the guest of Miss Hilda M. Gordon, the well-known artist and writer, who lives in Earl's Court, states "The Post" London correspondent. Mrs. Creasy's daughter, Mrs. Magill-Cuer-den, resides in Essex. The former, who has booked her return passage by the Rangitata due to leave in October, has been staying with her daughter and she has also been visiting the North of England and North Wales.
