LANCASHIRE "HOT POT"
Charles Graves in the London "Daily Mail" tells two Lancashire stories, one of which concerns Gracie Fields. It seems that during the filming of "Sing As We Go" our Gracie had to ride a bicycle and get mixed up with the traffic at Blackpool. When this scene was being shot she ran into a tram and was thrown off her machine. Directors and others rushed up to her, thinking she was hurt. There she sat on the roadway rubbing her legs and saying, "Ec, never heed me. How's tram?" Another one tells of a Lancashire girl who went into a confectioner's shop and saw a large cake covered with mauve icing. She asked what it was and was told it was wedding cake. "But why- mauve icing?" she inquired. "Ah,"' was the admirable reply, "t'bride only /buried' t'first husband six months ago, tha kno-ws/'
