A RECEPTION

PIONEER CLUB PIONEERS

Another function in honour of the Pioneer Club's thirtieth birthday, which is being celebrated this week, was held yesterday afternoon at the club to entertain the foundation members of the club.

Miss Amy Kane, president, assisted by Mrs. C. E. Adams and Mrs. G. A. King, "vice-presidents, received over a hundred members and guests.

In the comfortably furnished reception rooms there were a profusion of flowers in rose and mauve colourings. Pink sweet peas, camellias, stocks, iris, passion flowers, and greenery were a dharming contrast against the parchment coloured walls, where there were hanging many photographs of members of the club in the early days of its history. ' $ During afternoon tea a handsome birthday cake illuminated by thirty candles was cut. It was made by Miss Isaacs, and was a clever model of the building which is to house the new club rooms in the near future.

A musical programme included glees by the singing circle, songs by Mrs. Wallis Duncan, elocutionary items by Mrs. Anne Lane, and duets by Mrs. Goodson and Mrs. K. Fowles. Mrs. Fowles also sang a solo and was the accompanist.

Mrs. Gilkinson, president of the Otago Women's Club, was 'present, and many telegrams of greeting were received from absent friends in. New Zealand and abroad. Birthday gifts were also presented to the club by Mrs. Cook, Mrs. Isaacs, Mrs. Perry, Mrs. Beath, Mrs. Connor,, the house committee, and the executive committee. An address was given by Miss Amy Kane, who welcomed those present. She especially mentioned Miss M. Richmond, the Pioneer Club's first president, who, in her reply, spoke of her great interest in the growth of the club since its inception in 1909. Miss K. Williams's short address was an interesting resume of the history, past and present, of the club and club rooms. Mrs. Sprott also gave a short address.

The guests of honour, the foundation members, received posies of flowers upon their arrival. They were Miss M. Richmond, Miss E. Richmond, Miss I. Myers, Miss A. Kane, Mrs. Knox Gilmer, bMrs. R. C. Kirk, Mrs. R. W.. Kane, Miss R. Barnicoat, Mrs. Harcourt, Miss L. Hill, Miss K. Williams, Mrs. Talum, Mrs. A. E. Mabin, Mrs. A. Cowles, and Mrs. R. Isaacs.
