Land Raid did the last half-mile in 50sec: Blue Coat drew out over the last furlOng to beat Grey Night by a length over half a mile in 50 l-ssec. Grey Night earlier had bolted and run down the straight. Spanish Lad was a neck in front of Nigger Boy at the end of six furlongs in lmin 17 2-ssec. Screamer gave Palo Alto a start and a beating over half a mile in 52 3-ssec. Lord Midas beat Rex Maitland by a neck over half a mile in 49 3-ssec, the best of the morning. Savage suffered injuries to his shoulder, believed not serious, and was taken to hospital for attention when Uncle Jim crashed at the sod wall near the nine-furlongs post. Culverden (A. Leach) and Uncle Jim went out to school over the steeplechase fences on the course proper. Culverden jumped the sod wall nicely, but Uncle Jim slipped and fell heavily. Culverden was then .pulled up and given a working gallop on the grass. Travenna (R. J. Mackie) and Dividend (A. Stove) were companions over six hurdles. Travenna showed greater speed, but Dividend gained ground at the last obstacle in a smart display. Agog (G. B. Craddock) and Aussie Ra (A. E. Agog's showing was poor.
