AMERICA'S "BIG JOHN"
It is now quite : definite that Johns* town is America's champion three-year-old. At Aqueduct (New York) on June 17 he added the Dwyer Stakes'to his credit, running the nine furlongs in lmin 48 2-ssec, which was one-fifth of a second behind Discovery's record for the track.
Johnstown was favourite at odds on, and he beat Sun Lover by a length: and a half, with Challedon, who beat him in the Futurity at Pimlico, -in third place. The value of the race was equivalent to £2312, and made Johnstown's total earnings £41,326. ;His winnings for the year are £33*476. As with most prominent horses, Johnstown has a pet name, and the papers refer tb him as "Big John."
