UNUSUAL CONSISTENCY

A feature of hunting events at the southern end of the North Island this winter has been the seesaw of form between Glenvane and Lady Callaghan, who have beaten each other in turn with unusual consistency.

The first meeting of the pair was in the Akitio Hack and Hunters' Steeples at Manawatu on May 20, when Glenvane, 10.2. beat Lady Callaghan, 9.0, by four lengths. The next clash was in the Whirokino Hack and Hunters' Steeples at the Foxton Meeting (held at AWapuni), where Glenvane, 10.13, won again and Lady Callaghan, 9.4, was fourth. Going on to Wanganui, Lady Callaghan, 9.6. had her turn in the Hack and Hunters' Steeples, Glenvane, 11.8. being second. The next meeting was at the Rangitikei -Hunt, where Glenvane, 11.3. was winner of the Hunt Cup Steeples, with Lady Callaghan, 9.9, a close third. Finally at Awapuni again last Saturday. Lady Callaghan, 9.9, won the Manawatu Hunt Cup Steeples from Glenvane, 11.8, by five lengths. _ These two horses have thus met live times this winter (Glenvane has started six times and Lady Callaghan seven times in all during the period since their first clash in May), and Glenvane has won three of the contests and Lady Callaghan the other two. Glenvane moreover was second m eacn of Lady Callaghan's successes, and Lady Callaghan finished second fourth, and third respectively behind Glenvane when he won.
