PARLIAMENT
LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL
The Legislative Council met at 2.30 p.m.
The Alsatian Dog Bill, 1939, was introduced by the Hon. C. j. Carrington (Auckland).
HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
The House of Representatives met at 2.30 p.m. today.
Continuing his. speech in the Ad-dress-in-Reply debate, Mr. B. Gordon (National, Rangitikei) drew attention to the area of land that had gone out of production during the last three years and also the drop in the stock statistics, and claimed that the reason was that the farmer had been neglected by the present Government. Touching on the guaranteed price scheme he said that the marketing side had proved thoroughly satisfactory, though something similar would have been introduced had the previous Government been returned, but the great dispute between the farmer and the Government was that the Government had broken its contract. "The Government is prepared to stabilise farm income, but is not prepared to stabilise farm costs. Farmers are not getting a fair deal."
Mr. A. F. Moncur (Government, Botorua): They can go back to the old system.
(Proceeding.)
