RONGOTAI COLLEGE
(To the Editor.)
Sir,—Rongotai College, it is reported, is to be pulled down and negotiations are proceeding to secure land on which to rebuild and enlarge it. This land is about a mile nearer to the eastern boundary of the city than the present location. One wonders if it is necessary to rebuild Rongotai as a secondary school. , Including private schools, there are four boys' colleges between Tory Street and Seatoun. Why should all the provision for secondary education for boys be made on the eastern side of the city? From Plimmerton, Johnsonville, Khandallah, Ngaio,. Wadestown, Northland, Karori, and round to Vogeltown, all boys have to travel a distance and cross the city to reach these schools. Is it necessary to perpetuate this? •
It would be interesting to hear what the parents in the western suburbs think. Should they not be asking for a boys' college nearer home?—l am, etc.,
OLD BOY.
