CHURCH UNION?
CONGREGATIONAL AND METHODIST
DISCUSSIONS PROCEEDING
The union of the Methodist and Congregational Churches in New Zealand may be the outcome of a meeting of representatives of both denominations at present taking place in Wellington. A statement dealing with the negotiations was made by the Rev. Percy Paris, minister of Wesley Church, Taranaki Street, this afternoon. "Our last Methodist Conference in February passed a resolution that we should seek to enter into conference or conxmittee with other churches towards the ultimate union with the Presbyterian and also the Congrega- j tional Churches," he said. "A com- j mittee of both the Methodist and Con-; gregational Churches is meeting herej in Wellington now and is considering matters of Church doctrine. Church ordei's, and Church government. Good pi-ogress is being made in a very friendly spirit, all pointing towards the possibility of union of the two Chm-ches in the not very distant future." j
