The returns show that at the end of June there was a total of 791,455 tons under construction in British shipyards, representing an advance of 194,552 tons, or nearly 25 per cent, compared with the previous quarter.

By contrast, tonnage of building* in Other countries showed a decline of 38,929 tons. The total tonnage under construction in the world at the end of June amounted to 2,859,292 tons, of which Britain's share was 27.7 per cent.
