STRIKING IMPROVEMENT

The striking improvement in British is further shown in thi latest Lloyd's Register, The Hgurei cover the three months which hay» passed , since the Government an» nouneed its plans for assistance to merchant shipping, and reflect the very large volumes of orders for new tonnage placed during that period. The returns show that at the end of June there was a total of 791,455 tons under construction in British shipyards, representing an advance of 194,552 tons, or nearly 25 per cent, compared with the previous quarter.
By contrast, tonnage of building* in Other countries showed a decline of 38,929 tons. The total tonnage under construction in the world at the end of June amounted to 2,859,292 tons, of which Britain's share was 27.7 per cent.
