INTER-CLUB RESULTS

WIN TO WELLINGTON I

For the second week in succession, an A grade team defaulted in Wellington Badminton Association interclub competitions during the week. This week, the Wellington Club was unable to field its No. 2 team against Wimbledon I. Only one A grade match was played, Wellington I defeating Tinakori by seven matches to one. Results of the game, Wellington names first, were: — E. A. Roussell beat S. Marris, 15-5, 15-1; T. Hewett lost to G. Organ, 12-15, 8-15; Roussell and Hewett beat Marris and Organ, 15-8, 12-15, 15-8; Miss N. Fleming beat Miss J. Denby, 11-0, 11-1; Miss C. Phillips beat Miss G. Usher, 11-6, 11-6; Misses Fleming and Phillips beat Misses Denby and Usher, 11-6, 11-6; Roussell and Miss Fleming beat ! Marris and Miss Denby, 15-6, 15-6; Hewett and Miss Phillips beat Organ and Miss Usher, 15-12, .15-8. Results in lower grades were:—Tinakori beat Wesley, 15 to 1 (B grade); Kelburn beat St. Thomas, 13-3 (O; Harbour Board beat H.V.0.P.A., 16-0 (D); Wesley beat Kelburn, 10-6 (E.); E.S.U. beat Vauxhall, 12-4 (F.); Winter Show beat St. John's, 13-3 (G.) Roussell's much-improved form since the beginning of the season was demonstrated against Marris, who tried very hard without ever solving the problem of Roussell's changes of pace and direction. Miss Usher gave Miss Phillips some hot moments and Miss Fleming paid Miss Denby the compliment—as she does every opponent—of going at top from start to finish. Miss Denby at least had the satisfaction of knowing that her one point was deserved. Marris and Organ played well after the first set in the men's doubles, but Hewett stood up well to their battering and in the tense moments of the third set he was cool and an able assistant to Roussell. Miss E. Mac Lean, the Varsity tennis player, showed, capital form for Kelburn in the C grade and with more expei'ience she should develop into a really fine player. She has the strength and stamina to develop. E.S.U., lacking at least two stars, including K. Steele, the No. 1, who has had a bout of pleurisy, practically assured itself of the F grade championship by defeating Vauxhall, a strong team in the competition, and in the G grade Winter j Show's defeat of St. John's pointed to the club as a likely winner of the! grade. . i Next week's fixtures are: —Tuesday.! F grade, Southern v.. St. Andrew's; Wednesday. F grade. St. John's v. Tinakori; G grade. H.V.Y.M.C.A. v. Wai- I whetu; A grade. Winter Show v. Wimbledon 3; Thursday, B grade, Har-1 bour Board v.
