SENTENCES VARIED
QOURT OF APPEAL REVISION
The following sentences passed on prisoners in the Supreme Court have been varied by the Court of Appeal after cbnsideration of the appeals lodged:—
Hapi Atutahi, labourer, of Rotorua, sentenced to two years' hard labour and declared a habitual criminal for breaking and entering and assault at Te Wairoa: declaration cancelled and written warning issued.
William George Alexander Phillips, of Wellington, sentenced to two years' hard labour for false pretences and seven years' hard labour for bigamy, with a redeclaration as a habitual criminal: bigamy sentence reduced to three years, concurrent with other sentence.
John Donne Collins, sentenced to one year's hard labour and declared a habitual criminal at Dunedin for obtaining a motor-car by false pretences; declaration cancelled and written warning i: led.
William Charles Jaggar. wool-buyer, of Christchurch, sentenced to two years' hard labour and debarred from holding a driving licence for ten years for causing deatlv while intoxicated in charge of a motor-car: sentence m reduced to twelve months and period of disqualification to five years.
Lionel Roland Robert Horn, sentenced to one year's hai'd labour and four' years' reformative detention on nine charges of breaking and entering and theft, two of breaking and 'entering with intent, and one of theft, at Dunedin: sentence reduced to two years' reformative detention.
