PROGRESSIVE LEVIN
A. & P. ASSOCIATION DINNER
I (Special to the "Evening Post.") LEVIN, July 13. Over 120 people attended the annual dinner of the Horowhenua A. and P. Association on Wednesday night. The president, Mr. A. M. Colquhoun, was in the chair. ' Among the many toasts honoured was "Levin and District," proposed by Mr. S. 'A. Broadbelt, chairman of the Levin Co-op. Dairy Co., who said that there was no more progressive district in New Zealand than Levin. The Levin, abattoir supplied Wellington with a large proportion of its meat, and in the surrounding country there was some of the best dairying land in the Dominion. His own factory this year was paying 16.9375 d per lb for butterfat, and it was intended to make a bonus pay-out in a few weeks of £40,000. Opportunity was taken during the evening to make a presentation to Mr. J. J. Hercock, manager of the Boys' j Training Farm for the past six years,' who has been transferred. I Responding, Mr. Hercock said he had done his best for the farm and the association. He had endeavoured to give the boys an interest in farming pursuits. All boys, however, were not fitted for farm life, and the fact that there were so many square pegs in round holes was the cause of most of the troubles at the farm. The money the farm stock had won at 1 various shows had always been de- ! voted to the boys' recreation fund. He was taking some of the problem cases with him to his new activities and by a special study of them try and make them useful citizens.
