ADDRESSES AND FILMS
CITY ELECTRICAL STAFF
Members of the staff of the City Corporation electricity department have formed an association of. their own and the first general meeting was held recently, with an attendance of about 80. Mr. B. Malyon, who presided, outlined the aims of the association, to afford opportunities for members of a large and sectionalised staff to meet each other and the officers of the department and to discuss matters of mutual interest and conditions which were outside the scope of the several unions under which the staff was grouped. Committees were set up in each section to make representations through the executive of the association to the management.
The general manager of the electricity department, Mr. M. Cable, gave a most interesting address upon the developments in^the now huge electrical industry as he had seen them since he entered the Siemens works over 40, years ago. Mr. Cable showed a number of lantern slides illustrating the forward steps of steam and electrical development and their application to industry.
Films were shown of. .the construction of the huge Boulder Dam hydroelectric station on the Colorado River, with an output of 1,830,000 k.v.a., and of the twelfth annual camp of Toe H in Marlborough Sounds, in colour. Supper was served, and altogether the evening was thoroughly enjoyable.
