WHANGAREI'S SEASON
In his report, to be presented to the anmial meeting of the Whangarei Racing Club, the president, Miv R. G. Hosking, states that the club had enjoyed a successful year, the accounts showing a surplus. For the two meetings the investments to £59,628, an increase of £5000, and stakes and transport, at £5556, showed an increase of £766 over the previous season. Taxation paid amounted to £5097. with a rebate of £500.
Alterations and improvements to the track had cost £665. The banking of the turns and th 6 lengthening of the track, together with the removal of the hill, had made the.track one of the best country courses in the Dominion. Owners, trainers, and jockeys had commented favourably on the improvements made. The membership during the year totalled 204. Under the rules, Mr. R. G. Hosking (president), Mr. L. R. Nelson (vicepresident), and Messrs. K. G. M. Kelly, L. A. Johnson, M. Mclnnes, A. A. MacKay, and T. Lin'nell, of the committee, retire, as do Messrs. J T. Wall, T. A. Williams, and R. K. Trimmer, members3 stewards, and an election will be necessary- ■ . "■■' ■■ '
