ELECTION OF NEW HEAD

LONDON July 5.

The High Council of the Salvation Army will meet in London on August 15 to elect a successor to " General Evangeline Booth.

There are 23 full commissioners nine of whom are either past or nearing the retiring age of 73. There are 32 other commissioners.

Likely candidates have been narrowed down to 14, notably Commissioners Hurrey, Saintley (principal of the International Training College), Carpenter (a Canadian), Damon (an American), and Maxwell, head of the publishing and trade departments, who has had experience in Canada and Australia;

It is not expected that a woman will be elected. It is unlikely that the present one-man control system will be altered in favour of a council with administrative powers, but the 25-year period of the commissionership ,will probably be reduced to nine years.
