KUKU LAND PROPOSAL
STATEMENT BY MR. SAVAGE
NO INJUSTICE MEANT
Referring today to the protest thai has been raised regarding the proposal to. take land in the Kuku area, near Levin, for market gardening, the Prime Minister (the Kt. Hon. M. J. Savage) stated emphatically that if an agreement could not be reached with the settlers the matter would be dropped.
"I said a day or two ago that there was no intention to do any injustice to the settlers, and I say that again," Mr. Savage said. "I am ready to meet them and talk the .matter, over with them if they care to come to see me. If they feel aggrieved. I will be glad to' hear their grievance. If we cannot agree about taking the land, that is the end of it."
When Mr. Savage was asked if the project would be dropped if agreement could not be reached, he said that positively nothing more would be done in the matter.
