CANAL FOR POLAND
AUSTRALIAN'S SUGGESTION
SUVA, July 5,
Sir Walter Carpenter, a Sydney business man, who is a passenger on the Mariposa, interviewed by the "Fiji Times and Herald," said that the sore spot in Em-ooe, Dsnzig. was composed almost entirely of German citizens and would never incorporate itself with Poland. To give it to Germany would block Poland's only access to the sea.
He suggests cutting a canal from the Vistula to Gdynia, so connecting Poland's port with the Vistula and eliminating the necessity for asing Danzig Germany, England, France, and Poland being invited to •■ contribute to the cost, which would be less than that of one day's war.
