MANX SOCIETY FUNCTION

To celebrate Tynwald Day members and friends of the Manx Society attended a concert in the Rechabite Hall recently. The programme, which was a varied one. was enthusiastically received by ..the large audience, many of whom- travelled Jong distances to be present at the function. The Manx national an them, was sung, at the beginning of the evening, arid' the Rev. A. M. Costain, the chairman, contributed Manx songs and humorous readings '.o the programme. Mr. Tom Woods was heard in Manx lolk songs, and other performers also chose items suitable to the occasion. A very enjoyable play,. ! "The Dooinney Moyllee," produced by iMiss Constance Kelly,'was a feature of the programme, those taking part being Misses H. McNatty, T. Burling, E. Pede/rion. and Messrs. T. C. -southward, A. Quayle, and S. Clarke. The supper I featured special Manx dishes and a "cooish" was" enjoyed by all. Among those who gave musical items were Miss Dorothy Downing, pianist; Miss \.enda Amos, cellist; Miss dhirley Wilson and Norman Wilson, solos and duets; Miss Sylvia Devenie,. contralto solos; and Miss Thelma Burling, humorous numbers. A vocal quartet was given by Misses W. Amos and T. Lewin and the Rev. Mr. Costain and Mr. T. IC. Southward. On Sunday evening members of th-2 society attended the Karori Methodist Church where, during the service conducted by the Rev. Mr. Costain, a i*eading from" the works of the Manx poet, T. E. Brown, was given by Miss Constance Kelly, and a sacred solo was sung by Miss Thora Lewin.
