SHIPS AFFECTED
AMERICAN DOCK STRIKE
(By Telegrapb--i>ress Association.)
AUCKLAND, July 5,
Work on the San Francisco waterfront was at a standstill for more than a week towards the end of last month as a result of a strike by dock checkers. Advice has been received in Auckland that the dispute was settled last Thursday, and the men have resumed work.
Ships in the New Zealand trade were slightly affected by the stoppage. It is understood that the Matson liner Mariposa, which will arrive here on Friday, left a quantity of cargo at San Francisco, which she cleared southbound on June 20. Sailings of the Union Company's cargo vessels have not been affected.
