REMANDS GRANTED
Edward Jack Ross, an engineer, aged 18, appeared before Mr. J. L. Stout, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court today, charged with the unlawful conversion of a car valued at £250. DetectiveSergeant P. Doyle, who applied for a remand to Wednesday next, said that the accused was arrested yesterday by Detective J. G. Long, and was one of a number of youths who had allegedly been associated in the unlawful conversion of cars and in matters in which the Postal Department was interested.
Frederick. William Law, a steward, gged 45, charged with deserting from the Rangitata on May 31, and with the theft of £1 9s in money, was remanded to next Wednesday. The accused was arrested yesterday by Detective P. C. Smeaton.
A remand to next Monday was granted Archibald Joseph Chester, a miner, aged 35. who faced two charges of wilful damage and one of trespass during a separation order.
