TURF NEWS IN BRIEF

The annual meeting of the New Zealand Racing Conference will be held in Wellington tomorrow.

Acceptances for the final day's racing at Trentham are due at noon tomorrow. :

Seven horses who won on the final day at Trentham last year, Court Yard, Curie, All Irish, Sly Fox, Monipere, Rebel Mate, and El Meynell, are at: the meeting this year. . •

It is understood that the Otaki Maori Racing Club is to make a vigorous effort at the annual meeting of the Racing Conference to secure its Birthday dates back in the winter.

All going well, Survoy will take on the Grand National Steeplechase next month and he will be ridden as usual by A. E. Ellis.

Jack Tar is the last foal of his dam, Santaline, to remain in the Dominion, as Santaline was sold with her next foal to go to South Australia over three years ago.

Mungatoon has not been produced so far at the meeting as he suffered an injury on his trip north.

The Mosgiel trainer D. P. Wilson flew home yesterday, having received news that his sister had died. It; is not known yet whether.this will affect Fireguard's engagement in the Winter Hurdles on Saturday. On the day that King Rey made his debut as a hurdler at Te Awamutu a fortnight ago, he also figured in the main. flat handicap (in which, he did not start) with top weight, 9.0. ' Five horses who have not raced so far at the meeting, Erination, Esteem, | Silk Sox, De Friend, and Disturbed, are still in the Winter Hurdles field. Erination and Disturbed are likely runners. After the race for the Wellington Steeplechase, A. E. Ellis stated that he very nearly parted company with Survoy when his mount went right through the first brush of the doubles on the final round. The horse was also a bit lucky not to fall at one of the fences in the Great Northern. j Trentham horses were most disappointing on the opening day of the Wellington Meeting on Tuesday, the only one among them to gain a place being the hurdler Toper. Many of them failed badly, but Yours Truly went a great race in the Whyte Handicap from an impossible marble and he was undoubtedly one of the unluckiest runners on the day. Two Trentham horses who made a surprisingly good showing on the opening day of the Wellington Meeting were Gay Hunting and Warehi. neither of whom had done anything of note recently on the track. Each actually I had the lead for a time in his respec- i tive race, but was then found wanting j over the closing stage. I Blonde Princess has at times been a disappointing performer, but she put up a stylish effort when winning the hack sprint at Trentham on Tuesday. • Like so many of her relatives, particularly those by Hunting Song, she is probably best served by soft going. She is actually a three-quarter blood sister to Sporting Blood and Sly Fox. The name under which she was first known was Fair Blonde.
