TRANSPORT IN NGAIO

BUS SE^VIdE CRITICISED

The bus service in Ngaio was > criticised' at the annual meeting of the Ngaio Progressive Association last night. It was remarked that those people who lived near.the railway were well served by the electric trains, but thosev in the vicinity of Trelissick Terrace had a very/poor bus servicenot as good, one member said, as suburbs 20 miles from the city. The chairman, Mr. H. L. Cummings, said that s the foresight of the association was proved by the success of tho •electric trains. A year ago about i 40,000 people travelled in a-month and now the number was about 170,000. I The annual report . stated that 1 during the year/the committee had i made strong recommendations to the !Railway Department to overcome.the over-crowding on-certain of the "peakhour" trains, and1 these had been received sympathetically by the Depart-, ment, and an r assurance given thatthe position would be^rectified as soon-as possible. The bus service had also received the careful consideration" of the committee and a representative had interviewed the Department with the effect of making certain improvements which would be of assistance to those residents who preferred the road service. '■ Officers for the ensuing year were elected as follows:—President, Mr. H. L. Cummings; vice-president. Mr. E. Turksma; hon. secretary and treasurer, Mr. R. Irving; hon. auditor, Mr. W.\J. ; Hicks; committee, Messrs. E. Turksma, G. E. Littlejohn, L. Manttan. C. H. Hosking, O. Gidall; A. V. Ross, and ;D.C. Haberfield. . - -
