A FAREWELL

MR. C. I. KIDSON

Yesterday afternoon the members of the City Engineer's staff said good-bye to Mr. C. I. Kidson, who has recently been appointed City Engineer of Nelson. The City Engineer (Mr. K. E. Luke), and the Deputy City Engineer (Mr. E. R. McKillop), paid tribute to the work which Mr. Kidson had done for the Corporation since joining the service some eleven years ago, to his industry, and to his ability.

Mr. Kidson, in replying, outlined the changes which had taken place in his pwn particular sphere of the department's activities during his term of office, detailing the improvements in road sealing methods, in which he played a part, and also in the transformation of the Rongotai aerodrome from an old sand and refuse heap to an aerodrome which, even if restricted, carries a traffic of some 27,000 passengers per annum.

Mr. Kidson was presented on behalf of the inside staff with a series of selected volumes. Previously in the day, at a separate function, he received from his own district staff and workmen a complete set of drawing instruments and an engraved wristlet watch.

The ceremony in the City Engineer's office was attended by all members of the staff, who expressed regret at having to say farewell to Mr. Kidson.
