"A SUITABLE VOLUME"

EXHIBITION VISITORS' BOOK

One of the most interesting records of an exhibition was the visitors' book, said the general manager of the Centennial Exhibition Company, Mr. C. P. Hainsworth, recalling the fact that the King and Queen had signed- such a book at the New York World Fair. It was hoped, for historical and other reasons, to make the visitors' book at Rongotai a valuable record,- It would be a suitable volume, and the'organisation' to obtain the signatures of visitors had been set up. It was intended to place it in the Dominion Museum or in a national library. Many people would visit the Exhibition more than pnce,- but it was hoped to obtain over a million signatures before the close of the Exhibition in April next year.

A million is a large number. All the electoral rolls for the Dominion contain about a million names, and bound together they make a very ponderous volume. Allowing tor ten hours a day, during the whole period of the Exhibition, visitors will have to sign at the rate q£ ten per minute if ,the "book" is to'be brought up to the million.
