CORRESPONDENCE

STRAWBERRIES

August will be too late for planting. The plants may grow, but will not produce any fruit till the following season. The usual time for planting is early lin autumn —May or June at latest. The I plants should be set at least one foot apart. Give the ground a dressing of bonedust at the time of planting— about 4oz to the square yard. The most popular varieties ax*e Captain Cook and Marguerite. I am not sure which do best in the Hutt. but perhaps you could find out from some neighbours who grow them. Be sure the ground is free from couch, sorrel, or similar weeds.
