ARRESTED IN DANZIG
POLISH CUSTOMS OFFICIAL
KIDNAPPED BY NAZIS
(Independent Cable Service.) WARSAW, June 12. The Danzig secret police have arrested Jan' Lipinski, a Polish Customs inspector who left his post on June 9 and did not return. The Polish authorities have ascertained that he is held for drunkenness, but it is claimed that Lipinski is a teetotaller.
M. Chodacki, the Polish Commissioner in Danzig, lodged a protest concerning the kidnapping and beating by Nazis of Lipinski who, it is alleged, was taken from a cafe, forced into a motor-car, and driven to the outskirts of Danzig, where he was left unconscious on the roadside. An unknown person telephoned the police, advising them where to find "a Polish spy."
The Danzig Government has announced that it is charging Lipinski with attempted kidnapping and espionage. A public trial is promised.
