HIBERNIAN BALL
DELEGATES ENTERTAINED
St. Francis Hall presented a gay sight recently when delegates, representing the various branches of the Hibernian Australasian Catholic Benefit Society at the annual district meeting, were entertained by the members of Wellington branches of the society.
The colour of Old Ireland was well to the fore in banks of native and exotic ferns, and a large reproduction of the coat-of-arms of the society formed the centrepiece of the stage decor, flanked by flags of all nations and further banks of foliage. The supper-room decorations followed the same scheme and the tables looked most inviting and colourful with their bright Iceland poppies and coloured drapings.
The fraternal spirit of the society was most evident during the evening and all present responded well to the excellent music. The dance programme varied from the formal waltz to the Palais Glide and Chestnut Tree. Between dances members were busy renewing old acquaintanceships.
The main feature of the evening was the Grand March of members and visitors. Led, by the Grand President of the New Zealand District of the Society (Bro. James Stratford) and the Grand Vice-President (Bro. J. J. McLaughlin), the visiting brothers and sisters in their lodge regalia, the members paraded the hall in the traditional formations. .
The committee in charge of arrangements included Sisters L. Lane, J. F. Carnegie, W. Delaney, and B. Craig; Brothers J. J. McLaughlin, L. M. Ford, J. J. Fox, W. McCarthy, W. Penman, G. Penfold, J. J.
