Although the northward extension of yes- j terday's deep depression has crossed the Dominion the main centre of low pressure has [ made only slow progress eastward and is now : centred near Stewart Island. There are indications that a fresh disturbance is forming to the north of the North Island. There were northerly to north-westerly gales yesterday and last night in central and western districts, but winds have since decreased considerably in force although still strong about Cook and Foveaux Straits. With the exception of Canterbury and Otago rain has beeu general, with heavy ' falls in the Southern Alps.
