THREE SHIPS

WORK FOR MONTH

FOXTON HARBOUR BOARD

(Special to the '.' Even Ino Post." >

* PALMERSTON N., This Day.

The financial position of the Foxton Harbour Board came yin**-- for some comment from members at its meeting in Palmerston North yesterday, when it was stated that, although the revenue was small, the prospects were- somewhat brighter and that they could continue to live in hopes. .

"We took only £39 last month and that, is not enough to pay expenses," said Mr. P. W. Goldsmith. •'..;.' ";'■'■

The secretary: It is not enough to pay the instalments. >

Mr. H.. Osborne:.The.secretary rang me up the other day to say that a Feilding firm had. applied ■to ship cattle through Foxton. I have written to the Canterbury;Steamship-Company and they say that they can give us a^ full load of cattle some time, in July and approximately 300 would come through the port in the season. Even if they have only half a load they will get a full one back, The firm has commended the board,for its facilities for handling cattle, which are the best on the coast. This is outward cargo, which should .be profitable to the board.

The chairman (Mr. J. Linklater): Although the present indications are not very good,, the prospects are bright and we live "in hope.

Mr. Osborne added that the Huanui was due today and the Hokitika would arrive' shortly' with a load. of timber. The report of the pilot, Captain G. Bald, stated that the arrivals1 and departures for,, the month numbered three; which was not as good as had been the case in the past. The financial statement showed a debit balance for May of £60 6s sd.
