TO TEACH SKIING

TWO INSTRUCTORS ARRIVE

Two ski instructors —Messrs. H. SE.ntner, of India, and Franz Skardarasy, of Austria—arrived by the Wanganella from Sydney today-to spend the winter in New Zealand. ' Mr. Skardarasy is under engagement to the Government Tourist Bureau, and Mr. Santner is planning to go, to the South Island.

Mr. Santner is instructor to the Ski Club, of India, and he will return to India after the New Zealand winter in time for the India winter sport, which commences early in December. The club of which he is the instructor is composed mainly of Army officers, and the skiing is unique in that it is held at levels from 7000 to 22,000 feet.

Mr. Skardarasy usually spends his winters in different parts of the world, and has twice visited Victoria as a ski instructor. This is his first visit to New Zealand. He has been a ski instructor for the last nine years, and commenced to ski at the age of 6. Australian skiing compared favourably with skiing in other parts of the world, though the runs in Australia were not so long, he said. He was anticipating with pleasure his stay in New Zealand, and would return home at the end of the winter.

His brother Ernst visited New Zealand previously as a ski instructor.
