CENTENNIAL TOURNEY

The Auckland Primary Schools' Rugby Union proposes :to conduct a Centennial Rugby tournament for representative primary school teams, according to information received from the secretary of the Auckland body, Mr. J. Box, at last night's meeting of the management committee ol the Wellington Rugby Union. The tournament would be held during the second week of the August holidays, 1940, and each primary school Rugby union ,of major unions of the North Island was invited to entei « team. The conditions governing' the tournament had not yet been definitely decided, for it was decided that competing teams should *orward suggestions. The following restrictions were probable: —(a) Age, not more than 15 years on IVlay 1, ly^tu; Kb) weight, osl uu on the first day of the tourney. Accommodation (billeting) and entertainment would be provided, but the visiting teams would most likely "have | to provide their own transport. Mr. J. R. Lamason remarked that the scheme was a bit ambitious, and on the motion of the chairman (Mr. J. N. Millard) the matter was referred to the Hutt Valley and Wellington Primary Schools' Unions. Permission was granted the Johnsonville Club to conduct the Saturday morning coaching of primary. school' boys in its. district on similar lines to the coaching to be done on city grounds in the near future. On the motion of the chairman it was decided to thank all the officials who assisted in the successful seven-a-side tournament on Monday, and to extend the committee's congratulations to j the winning teams. St. Patrick's College (Silver- j stream), August 2; tournament games' at WanganUi on August 19 and August; 21. !
