DOMINION'S NEED
IMMIGRATION POLICY
The question of immigration was briefly touched upon at the meeting of the council of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce last night and the following recommendation by the board of the junior 'chamber was adopted as a remit for the annual conference of the Associated Chambers in November: —
"That in view of the rapidly increasing proportion of elderly to young persons due to a falling birth-rate, the latent resources of New Zealand which require additional labour for, successful development, the rising cost of taxation per head of population, and the necessity of providing adequately for the defence of the Dominion, this board recommends that the Govern•ment be requested to undertake an immediate investigation of the possibilities of immigration and.an official survey of the country's resources with a view to a long-term settlement policy."
