OLYMPIC GAMES
WOMEN COMPETITORS
Some tL-.e ago the council of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association decided to. write to the centres seeking their views on the question of the participation of women athletes in the Olympic Games. • At. last night's meeting replies from five of the six centres were received. The consensus of opinion of the centres was that as long as the association caters for women athlete^ and there are competitors among them of a sufficiently high standard they should receive cohsidera*tio'n.
Mr. J. A. Gassc>rt said he had raised the question originally so that the council would not be in the position of being harassed by the subject being introduced when, the time came to select the Nety Zealand team for the Olympic Games at Helsinki. The centres' seemed to think that; if, there were" women athletes of sufncienf.ttierit the .council should riominate, them. \
Other members of the council agreed with' this contention. :
