F.A. TROPHY

RULES UNCHANGED

SUGGESTED TOURNAMENT

A decision not to alter the present rules of the F.A. Trophy competition was made by the council of the New Zealand Football Association at its meeting last night. The decision followed consideration by the council and by the four major provincial associations of a Wellington proposal that the rules should be altered to have the F.A. Trophy played for on Plunket Shield lines.

It was decided to refer to the major associations a Canterbury suggestion that a tournament be played for the trophy by the four provincial teams assembled in Wellington The King's Birthday weekend was suggested as a suitable date, and it was pointed out that the competing associations would have to contribute each one-quarter of the total travelling expenses, the council to provide accommodation for the players and the ground. It was considered that such a tournament would be a ereater attraction than a North Tsland-South Island game.

'A challenge was received from Manawatu for the Brown Shield, the holders of which are Wanganui. It was decided thai the match should take place nnf l^tpr than Junp 24

The Wellington Football Association is to be asked to arrange, if it is possible, a match in Wellington between the Inter-house Association and Manawatu. The game was suggested 3s a curtain-raiser to a Chatham Cud final.
