Racing on Saturday at Dunedin and Hawke's Bay. . Nominations for classic events in the Dominion are due on Friday. Hawke's Bay acceptances close at 8 o'clock this evening. Charade is quite well named, but Mr Meikle's first choice for the mare was Cinderella, a name that, as things have turned out. would have htted her even better. Count Willonyx's trip across tor the Wanganui Steeplechase on Monday possibly cost him the double steeplechase honours at Napier Park. Disturbed was not ready for another race on Monday so soon after his hard fight for the honours in the Century Hurdles at Wanganui on Saturday, and he raced like a tired horse. The Australian jockey H. Challinder was in all the trouble going on Might at Wanganui on Saturday, but he took the chance to get out of the pack on Monday and he kept his charge well clear of everything after that. Corato. on his two efforts at Wanganui, is one of the best sprinters about at present. He belongs to the same family as Manly, another very useful horse in the years shortly after the war.
Padishah is due to have his first race over country at the Hawke's Bay Meeting on Saturday. He has already impressed in his schooling, and despite his 11.13. all of which he merits in this class, he will have to be considered if produced, though he will undoubtedly be improved with a race or two.
Haughty Winner, with a lot of good form this season, is being kept going in useful tasks at Riccarton. He has failed over long journeys, but is hard to beat up to a mile. It is probable he will make another trip next month to Trentham. where some of his best racing has been done.
