The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London, dated June 2, 1939:— Tallow. —Market continues quiet. Present spot Quotations are: Mutton, fine 235, good "20s. fair 16s to 16s Sd; beef, fine none, good 17s, fair 15s Cd to 16.5; mixed, good 17s, fair 15s 6d to 16s, gut 13s 6d to 15s; mutton, dark lo dull 14s 6d to 16s; beef, dark to dull, 13s 6d to 15s.
Hemp.—Manila, market easier. X grade, May-July shipment, sold £16 ss. Closing sellers £16 10s. Sisal, market quiet. Value, June-August shipment, £16 10s to £16 12s 6d.
Fruit. —Port Townsville, London, discharged in Rood condition. Port Brisbane, Dunkirk, poor condition. Apples: Market is about the same. Pears: Market weak. The following are the market values of sound conditioned fruit of the varieties mentioned, the range of prices generally representing the difference between the several grades and/or counts, variable conditioned fruit of similar varieties proportionately less in value: — Apples: Granny Smith 11s to 13s, Jonathan. Delicious 9s to 11s 6d, Stunner. Baldwin 9s 6d to 10s 6d. Dunn's Favourite 9s to 10s. Cleopatra 8s to 10s Lord Woiseley, London Pippin 8s 6d to 9s 6d. Pears: Winter Nelis 8s to 10s Winter Cole 7s to 9s, Beurre Easter 8s to 8s 6d, Keiffer 7s to 3s. Peas. —Maples, market continues firm, fair business done. No. 1 New Zealand. April-May shipment, £3 12s to £3 14s 6d, afloat, £3 15s. Offerings small, normal value, May-June shipment, £3 15s. A grade Tasmania sold last month, May-June shipment, £3 17s not mutilated. Nominal value, June-July shipment, £3 18s.
