IMPORTER FINED £30
(By Telegraph—Press Association.)
AUCKLAND, This Day.
Hector Ormiston Sinclair, an importer, was fined £30 and his driving licence was cancelled for a year when he pleaded guilty, through his solicitor, in the Magistrate's Court today, to intoxication while in charge of a motor-car.
The police said that he was starting his car on Princes Wharf yesterday and was stopped by a constable.
Counsel said that Sinclair had been under medical care for two years and had not taken any liquor during that period. He had an unblemished record and his lapse yesterday was due to taking three whiskies when seeing friends off by the Awatea.
Mr. C. R. Orr Walker said that he would give the accused the benefit of the doubt and not inflict imprisonment.
