STOLE VERANDAH POSTS.
Convicted of stealing two verandah posts, valued at £10, Herbert Edward Norton, a second-hand dealer, aged 51, was ordered by Mr. J. L. Stout. S.M., in the Magistrate's Court today, to come up for-sentence if called upon within six months, a condition being that he make restitution within one month.
Sub-Inspector D. J. O'Neill, who pro.secuted, said that the accused was a scrap metal dealer, and possessed a handcart. About March 21 last he went to the rear of the Hotel Bristol building, where he found two metal verandah posts. Without any authority whatever, he used a sledge hammer on them, broke them up, and carted them away in the handcart. Only recently he had been convicted of the same sort of offence.
The accused said that he was quite prepared to make restitution of the amount.
