A MINER KILLED

FALL OF BEAM

(Special to the "Evening Post.")

AUCKLAND, This Day.

At the Wilton Colliery, Glen Massey, yesterday morning, John Cooper, aged 21, son of Mrs. E. Cooper, Glen Massey Road, Ngaruawahia, was killed as a result of the collapse of a beam in the mine shaft. A companion, William Coyle, aged 22, of Glen Massey, received bruises and abrasions.

Cooper and Coyle were working in the shaft some distance from the mouth. Cooper was struck on the back of the neck and killed instantly. Coyle was able to walk away.

No fall of earth or coal followed the collapse of the beam, and other men employed in the mine had no difficulty in getting out.
